Kevin Feenan: Social Resiliency in Digital Games – International Conference on Immersive Learning

Social Resiliency in Digital Games by Kevin Feenan
International Conference on Immersive Learning, Conference Paper

ABSTRACT: This paper offers an insight of social resiliency in digital games based on ten years of observations from conference presentations on various digital games and virtual reality simulations. The paper articulates the issue of disruptive innovation and its relationship to the driving need for future college and university graduates to be prepared to face challenges associated with complex problems. The paper outlines five key success factors associated with digital game-based learning and their relationship to social resilience. Finally, the paper concludes by discussing several key implications on how future game-based learning designers may be better able to tackle the problem of managing disruptive innovation. Researchers may draw upon this paper’s observations to help frame ways in which future digital games may be better suited for instructional purposes when trying to address challenges of disruptive technology.

VWBPE 2018 Conference Proceedings Published: Journal of Virtual Studies

VWBPE 2018 Conference Proceedings Published: Journal of Virtual Studies

The Journal of Virtual Studies is a peer-reviewed, free and open access publication sponsored by the Rockcliffe University Consortium. Its main aim is to feature work that examines knowledge emergence in virtual spaces, whether they be web 2.0 or 3D applications. In order to receive publication notices, please register at the website. The Journal of Virtual Studies is constantly evolving, just like the work of those who can imagine that horizon. Teachers, academics, practitioners, and others engaged in the use of any virtual space for education, research, or training, are encouraged to submit proposals to the journal.

Every year, the Journal of Virtual Studies publishes a special edition for the Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education conference proceedings. All papers and presentations were peer-reviewed with the same level of care as journal papers typically are, convening an additional editorial staff to assist in the process. Vol 9, No 2 (2018) has now been published and can be downloaded here.

The journal features work from a variety of communities who took up the VRevolution challenge. Also available in this issue are links to keynote videos, a spotlight on this year’s Thinkerer Award winner, and papers highlighting the topics shared at each of the Quadrivium sessions.
